The satellite pay TV platform, Digital+, is the market leader of the pay TV in Spain, the third in Europe and the pioneer in introducing digital television, High Definition, the 3D (television in three dimensions) and the interactive services in the audiovisual communications' market in our country.
With a potential share of more than 6.5 million viewers, Digital+ offers more than 150 channels and programming services that are available by means of its decoders, among which you may find the iPlus, a conditional access device that enjoys the most advanced technology and allows you to capture the High Definition and 3D signals.
Digital+ has 15 High Definition (HD) channels, eight of which are of the CANAL+ family and the rest of the world's most prestigious contents' producers (Fox, MTV, National Geographic and Eurosport), thus gathering together the most obvious indexes of quality and prestige in all of their categories (especially in the movies and sports) and thus configuring the best and most complete offer of High Definition in Spain.
High Definition comes together with iPlus, the terminal with the digital platform's hard disc whose release, in 2007, placed Digital+ at the vanguard of this advanced technology. During this year, the platform's technical team has developed new techniques aimed at optimising its performance and increasing the users' satisfaction. Among these new features, we may highlight the option of Recording in series, a new function that allows you to group together either all of the chapters of a series' same season, or those of a document or a program.
In order to do so, the system automatically looks for the release showings or other alternatives and records them automatically, with its not being necessary for the user to worry about when they will be broadcast. The complete recording is grouped together on MY CHANNEL, associated with a detailed file.
Digital+ began the year 2009 by extending its dial with the arrival of all the new channels from the national general television. These new incorporations mark an inflection point in the subscriber's relationship with Digital+ that, as of that moment, may keep track of all the television offers from only one remote control without moving away from the open payment world.
The result has represented a clear increase of 25% in the platform's use. If subscribers previously used Digital+ 34.5% of the time they were watching television, from then onwards, Digital+'s usage has reached 46.3%.
Digital+, moreover, has consolidated its thematic channels' offer thanks to the never-ending improvement and adequacy of the contents to the customers' needs. With the incorporation of Biography and Decasa, the platform covered a pending issue with the type of documentaries dedicated to hobbies and home.
Likewise, the company produces a series of thematic channels that cover very assorted contents and which, in addition to being present on Digital+'s offer, are commercialised to other pay operators. That is the case with CNN+, Spanish Dmovies, Sportmanía, Viajar, 40TV, 40Latino and Hunting and Fishing.
Digital+'s contents have also stood out on the screen and have been the leading characters of the I Series' Festival that was held in Madrid in 2009. A great appointment with the series' world that was boosted by the digital platform with CANAL+'s collaboration and all of the entertainment channels it distributes. The contest started out this year addressing the television format's star genre and has represented a meeting point with the persons in charge of their creation: series' producers and actors or sponsors got together in November at the Círculo de Bellas Artes of Madrid surrounded by critics and journalists who are specialised in this genre.
Likewise, Digital+ móvil, Sogecable's mobile television platform, has extended its coverage and has multiplied its offer.
After signing an agreement with Telefónica this last month of March, the platform completed its distribution and passed on to being available to the more than sixteen million 3G terminals that the main operators in Spain make up: Vodafone, Movistar and Orange.
The platform's offer of contents currently exceeds 30 channels of different genres, among which the movies, entertainment, sports, music, child and juvenile and news ones stand out.
Plus.es, Canal+ and Digital+'s web, keeps on growing.
The page has become the image of the best schedule that is offered and the platform multiplies its contents.
At the moment, special sites surrounding CANAL+'s great releases, galleries of images and videos, an interactive guide (i-TV Guide) for knowing the next broadcasts in detail and a wide offer of specialised blogs make up plus.es' structure. Furthermore, the web is consolidated as a genuine television on the Internet: plus.es retrieves Canal+'s best home production for the Internet users and, more and more frequently, offers its visitors the direct broadcast of major events. Its daily appointment with the best live NBA, the main bull fairs with an obligatory visit to San Isidro or the April Fair, the Grand Slams of the golf world, the Super Bowl or Wimbledon, are only some of its best examples.
